Designed for senior managers, the course begins by introducing strategic planning, vision and development.
Having explored the principles behind strategy, the course then examines the key skillset and mindset of strategic leaders and managers.
Focus then shifts from assessing the fundamental leadership and management competences to actively honing these skills.
Key practical sessions include managing from a distance, dealing with conflicts and communicating confidently.
Day Four then explores organisational culture, well-being, and team identity, followed by the final day on personal development approaches and emotional intelligence.
Through this structure, leaders and managers will gain a sharpened understanding of what makes an effective, strategic leader, and how this is achieved in practice.

Ian Rennie
Ren is a learning and development designer and facilitator specialising in strategy, policy and talent management. He has extensive domestic and international experience that has seen him work for the ILO, EU and working in-country for Governments across Europe and the Caribbean as well as Egypt, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, South Africa, Uganda and the United Arab Emirates. Ren’s work on talent management has seen him deliver prestigious leadership and high potential future leadership programmes across the UK Civil Service, most recently facilitating the FCDO’s fast stream programme.
Andrew Archer
Course Trainer
Andrew is an International Learning Consultant, with extensive experience of working in the UK Civil Service and with governments, other public sector bodies and companies around the world.
As a consultant, Andrew has spent the last seven years working with government and non-government organisations in the UK and overseas, delivering open and bespoke development programmes and consultancy advice. In the UK Andrew has worked with several UK government departments on projects including a change programme to align strategy, policies, structure and job roles and year-long talent development programmes.
Qualification

This course offers participants the option to achieve a globally-recognised Chartered Management Institute Level 7 qualification should they opt to complete the assessment criteria.
Assessment
After attending the training course, participants can choose to submit two written assignments of between 3500 and 4500 words each. The assignment will then be graded by the CMI and successful candidates will be awarded the Chartered Management Institute Level 7 Certificate in Strategic Management and Leadership Practice.
