You’ll explore strategic leadership, organisational performance, financial decision-making and customer-focused marketing through interactive workshops, real-world case studies and practical exercises that can be applied immediately within your own organisation.

Day 1
Leadership and Management.
Day 1: Leadership and Management. Exploring the difference between leadership and management. Types of and approaches to leadership and the consequences of leading using different approaches.
Day 2
Strategy
Day 2: Strategy. The nature and meaning of strategy in terms of seeking to identify where an organisation aims to be in X years’ time. The basic process around developing strategy to include some simple strategic analysis and the identification of core types of strategy.
Day 3
Finance
Day 3: Finance. An introduction to key elements of financial decision-making. Explore how key financial ratios and decision-making methods can help to inform decision-making. Delegates will not require any prior knowledge and understanding of accounting but will seek to exploit their practical day-to-day engagement with basic costs and revenues.
Day 4
Marketing
Day 4: Marketing. In introducing marketing, the emphasis will be on the broader definition of marketing as ‘identifying, anticipating and satisfying customer requirements profitably’ (Chartered Institute of Marketing). The day will explore some basic concepts around types of customer, market segmentation, and consumer behaviour.
Day 5
Reflection through the lens of leadership
Day 5: Reflection Through the Lens of Leadership. Delegates will have an opportunity to reflect on topics covered throughout the course while exploring the Mini MBA and other option, the microcredentials, certification etc.

Andrew Ashwin
Course Director
Andrew is an associate lecturer in the International Business School at the University of Lincoln. He spent 20 years in teaching before moving to the University of Bristol as a content developer for an online website for teachers and lecturers in economics and business. Between 2007 and 2019, he was involved in higher education publishing and was the head of higher and vocational education publishing for a leading international publisher, where he led a team publishing across business, accounting and finance, economics, psychology, management, and strategy.
Andrew has an MBA in International Educational Leadership from the University of Hull and gained a PhD from the University of Leicester researching into the assessment of threshold concepts and troublesome knowledge in economics and business. Part of the research was prompted by his work as an examiner. Andrew was the chair of examiners for a major UK awarding body and is also a subject specialist consultant in economics for the examinations regulator, Ofqual. He is also a Chartered Educational Assessor.
Qualification
This course gives delegates the option of further academic study consisting of micro credentials validated by The University of Lincoln. These are a series of modules with academic credit that can be used to support continued professional development (CPD) or stacked towards a larger qualification, such as a certificate, diploma, or even credit towards a degree programme.
