Overview

CMI Centre logoHeld over three days, the course begins by examining workplace inequality, covering institutional barriers, biases and attitudes.

Participants will have the chance to explore inclusion in their own organisational context, along with the business case for equality.

Focus will then be placed on developing strategic approaches to equality, diversity and inclusion, from appraising data to monitoring, reviewing and embedding strategic equality objectives.

  • Understand equality, diversity and inclusion at a strategic level
  • Critically assess structural inequality within an organisational and societal context
  • Examine approaches to comply with legal and good practice requirements
  • Appraise the influence of equality, diversity and inclusion on strategic objectives
  • Develop strategic priorities for equality, diversity and inclusion

To provide a fully immersive study experience, this course will be led by experts with a wealth of professional experience and in-depth knowledge of the field.

Sessions will be held each day, providing peer-to-peer exchanges and interactive discussions with the subject matter experts on content, techniques and case studies.

To ensure a varied and engaging learning experience, the course will delivered as blend of workshop activities, group exercises, presentations and self-reflective materials.

As a CMI Level 7 course, this training is designed for individuals who are responsible for translating organisational strategy into effective performance. Aimed at senior managers, the course is ideal for regional, specialist, director or CEO management roles and business owners.

Day 1
Understand Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Context 
  • Welcome, Introductions and Overview
    • Introductions to the trainer(s), MyPD support team and fellow participants
    • Sharing of backgrounds, areas of work and motivations for taking the course
    • Overview of the course content and planned outcomes for the week

    Inequality in the Workplace

    • Introduction to the topic
    • Explore the meaning of equality, diversity and inclusion
    • Examine the manifestations of inequality at work

    Societal Perspectives on Inequality

    • Understand the wider, societal drivers of inequality in the workplace
    • Analyse structural inequality, institutional barriers and their impact on organisations
    • The behaviour of us and the movement for change

    Moral, Financial and Legal Business Case for Equality, Diversity and Inclusion

    • Be able to articulate the need for workplace equality, diversity, and Inclusion
    • Appreciate the importance and connectivity to inclusion of the legal framework on
    • Outline the beneficial impacts that EDI has on an organisation from multiple perspectives

    Exploring EDI: Your Own Organisational Context

    • Reflect on your own organisation’s approach to EDI and apply a SWOT analysis to your organisation
    • Identify opportunities and areas for improvement
Day 2
Approaches, to implementing EDI strategically
  • Influence of EDI on Strategic Objectives
    • Strategic approach to EDI using a framework for success for a compelling EDI narrative
    • Developing EDI strategic priorities within an organisational context
    • Creating an EDI business case for tangible sustainable solutions 

    Setting Strategic Priorities: Defining Success

    • Select and appraise data to inform strategic priorities of an organisation
    • Developing a strategy to embed EDI strategic priorities

    Developing, Monitoring and Reviewing Strategic Objectives

    • Reviewing approaches to effectively framework monitor and review EDI strategic objectives and solutions
    • Consider the effectiveness of an equality impact assessment as a collaborative approach to EDI.

     

Day 3
Moving Forward: Workplace Equality Diversity and Inclusion in Practice 
  • Common Oversights in EDI Approaches
    • Identify the frequent deficits or oversights in implementing EDI in organisations, using examples and peer lived experiences.

    Identifying Obstacles and Barriers to implementing EDI

    • Assess the common factors and barriers which inhibit the implementation of EDI effectively in companies
    • Anticipate points of resistance and explore strategies for overcoming them

    Accountability Mechanisms

    • Examine how roles, responsibilities and accountabilities can be developed in operational planning
    • Review how hold others to account throughout the organisation through accountability mechanisms such as a scorecard

    Action Plans and Individual Presentations

    • Develop your own action plan for for ensuring you adopt a strategic approach to EDI moving forward. Consider what you are going to do and why and the outcome(s) you are looking to achieve, including how you will hold yourself to account and present it to the group

Qualification

This course offers participants the option to achieve a globally-recognised Chartered Management Institute Level 7 qualification should they opt to complete the assessment criteria.

Assessment

After attending the training course, participants may choose to complete a written assignment of 3500 – 4000 words. The assignment will then be graded by the CMI and successful candidates will be awarded the Chartered Management Institute Level 7 Award Strategic Approaches to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion
